Mexico deploys troops as Guardia Nacional marks 7th anniversary in Sinaloa and Coahuila

On June 30, 2026, Governor Yeraldine Bonilla Valverde attended a ceremony in Culiacán commemorating the seventh anniversary of the Guardia Nacional. General Brigadier Julices Julián González Calzada highlighted the force’s commitment, saying “the women and men who make up the Guardia Nacional maintain the commitment to contribute permanently to the security and peace of Mexico.”

The same day the Mexican Army sent approximately 1,000 soldiers to Sinaloa, including 100 members of the elite Brigada de Fusileros Paracaidistas, to reinforce public‑security operations against organized crime. The deployment joins an earlier dispatch of 90 special‑forces personnel on June 26.

In Coahuila, Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas noted that 99.9% of the state’s active security personnel have passed the national “control of confidence” evaluation, with only 0.8% pending administrative procedures. The state has been cited as one of the safest in the country, a status the governor linked to ongoing coordination with the Army, the Guardia Nacional and other federal agencies.
