COP31 Bike Ride cycling relay travels through the Balkans

The COP31 Bike Ride, an international cycling relay, is traveling through the Balkans toward Antalya, Turkey, where the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) will be held in November. The initiative began in Belém, Brazil, the host of the previous COP30, and aims to promote sustainable mobility and climate policy awareness by connecting local cycling communities and government officials.

In Montenegro, Minister of Transport Radoš Zečević met with participants in Podgorica who had arrived from Italy. He presented a letter of support from the Ministry of Transport, emphasizing Montenegro’s commitment to improving cycling infrastructure and sustainable transport systems. The Ministry highlighted recent steps, such as the adoption of regulations for cycling infrastructure and new legislation to allow bicycle transport on trains.

The caravan is scheduled to enter Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 9, following its passage through Albania and Montenegro. The route will eventually lead to Belgrade, where participants will join the main caravan traveling from Brazil.
