COP31 international cycling relay

Overview

The COP31 Bike Ride is an international cycling relay aimed at promoting sustainable mobility and urging governments to include cycling infrastructure in national climate pledges. Using the slogan ‘Ride Slower, Change Faster’, the initiative carries ten political proposals for active mobility toward the United Nations climate conference in Antalya, Turkey.

The 2026 relay began in Belém, Brazil, and is intended to cover at least 22,000 kilometres across more than 20 countries and three continents. This edition follows previous relays that connected Paris to Baku for COP29 and Azerbaijan to Brazil for COP30. The project seeks to involve 10,000 cyclists and utilizes a symbolic banner to transport its policy proposals.

As the relay progresses through Europe, it has conducted awareness activities in locations such as Pesaro, Italy. In Montenegro, the caravan met with Minister of Transport Radoš Zečević in Podgorica. The Minister presented a letter of support from the Ministry of Transport, noting Montenegro’s recent adoption of regulations for cycling infrastructure and new legislation allowing bicycle transport on trains. Following its passage through Albania and Montenegro, the caravan is scheduled to enter Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 9, eventually heading toward Belgrade to join the main caravan traveling from Brazil.
