COP31 climate summit fills Antalya hotels as Turkey prepares for UN conference

After hosting the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey is set to host the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) in Antalya from November 9‑20. The conference will bring 196 countries, more than 100 heads of state, over 400 ministers and an estimated 80,000‑120,000 participants, and is projected to inject about $2 billion into the Turkish economy.

Antalya’s accommodation sector is already at capacity. The Antalya Tourist Hotels and Guesthouses Association (ANTOB) president Alp Özel described the situation as “kapalı gişe” (sold‑out). Hotels in the historic Kaleiçi district and other areas such as Lara, Konyaaltı and Belek report occupancy rates of 100 %. Local operators cite reservations from journalists and officials from Sweden, Norway, Brazil, the United States and other nations, turning what would normally be a low‑season period into a high‑season boom.
