COP31 preparations advance through climate finance summit and NGO training

Preparations for the COP31 Climate Summit, to be hosted by Türkiye in Antalya in November 2026, are underway through various regional and international initiatives.

In Ankara, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) completed a comprehensive training program focused on climate change adaptation and its impact on disadvantaged groups. Supported by the Ankara Development Agency and led by the International Science Association, the program provided field workers and volunteers with tools to analyze social risks and prepare for potential climate-related disasters.

In Istanbul, the Istanbul Climate Finance Summit was held under Türkiye's COP31 presidency. The summit brought together representatives from government agencies, multilateral development banks, international financial institutions, and the private sector. Discussions centered on climate finance, the development of climate-resilient cities, and preparations for COP31.

During the summit, Azerbaijani representatives highlighted the agreement reached at COP29 regarding the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance, which aims to provide $1.3 trillion in support to developing countries by 2035. The event also emphasized the importance of sustainable urban development and the Baku Sustainability Coalition.
