Copa Chile match suspended after flare incident near player

A Copa Chile round-of-16 match between Everton and Universidad de Chile was suspended in the 82nd minute at Estadio Sausalito due to security concerns involving pyrotechnics. New video footage indicates that a flare, which landed near Everton player Maximiliano Guerrero, originated from the Universidad de Chile supporters' section, contradicting initial broadcast reports that suggested it came from the home fans.

Following the incident, the ANFP decided that the remaining seven minutes of the match, which was 1-0 in favor of Universidad de Chile at the time of suspension, would be played at the Estadio Nacional before the second leg.

Everton player Óscar Opazo expressed significant frustration regarding the decision-making process. He criticized the ANFP for presenting the club with pre-determined conclusions during meetings and stated that the team felt “perjudicados” (prejudiced) and “atados de mano” (handcuffed) by how the situation was handled.
