Copeco announces tsunami drill and forecasts unstable weather in Honduras
The Secretariat for Risk Management and National Contingencies (Copeco) will conduct a tsunami drill this Friday on the beaches of Cedeño, in the municipality of Marcovia, Choluteca. The exercise, held in observance of World Tsunami Awareness Day, aims to prepare the population of the Honduran Pacific coast for potential emergencies. Vice Minister Luis René Suazo stated that the drill will involve students, firefighters, the Red Cross, and municipal authorities to test evacuation times, review risk maps, and identify safe routes.
Separately, Copeco has issued a weather forecast predicting scattered rains, showers, and electrical storms across the southern, southwestern, central, and eastern regions of Honduras due to wind convergence from the Pacific and Caribbean. While much of the country will experience high temperatures, with the southern region reaching 34 degrees Celsius, the La Esperanza area in Intibucá is expected to be the coolest at 13 degrees Celsius. Maritime conditions include waves of one to three feet on the Caribbean coast and two to four feet in the Gulf of Fonseca.
