Copenhagen Airport faces longer passport queues under new EU Entry/Exit System

The European Union's new Entry/Exit System (EES) requires travelers from non‑Schengen countries to have their passports digitally registered, photographed and fingerprinted. At Copenhagen Airport, the additional checks have already produced waits of up to 75 minutes on busy weekends. Airports Council International cautions that during the summer peak, queues could extend to four hours or more if no solutions are found. The UK Foreign Office, as well as the United States, Canada and Australia, have updated travel advice, urging their citizens to allow extra time for EU border controls.

Officials stress that the system prioritises security over speed, and that staffing shortages at border checkpoints also contribute to the delays. Travelers are advised to arrive early for flights to or from non‑Schengen destinations this summer.
