Copenhagen to host new quantum chip fabrication facility

The Novo Nordisk Foundation and Quantum Foundry Copenhagen are constructing a 5,300-square-meter quantum chip fabrication facility in Copenhagen. The project aims to strengthen Europe’s position in the global quantum race by transitioning from fundamental research to industrial-scale manufacturing.

The facility will provide advanced manufacturing equipment, ultra-high vacuum capabilities, and wafer fabrication services to quantum technology vendors worldwide. It is designed to develop the proprietary tools, materials, and processes required for next-generation quantum processors.

This initiative supports the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s broader commitment to quantum technologies, which exceeds DKK 2.9 billion. The foundry will work in close coordination with the Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, which aims to develop Denmark’s first fully functional fault-tolerant quantum computer by 2034.
