Coquimbo, Chile unveils museum relief campaign and free theater‑musical tour

The Museo OVNI in La Serena, part of the Coquimbo region, announced a fundraising drive called “Agosto Solidario” after intense rains and humidity damaged the museum’s facilities. The museum will remain closed for August to repair exhibition halls and protect its collection. The campaign asks the public to contribute an amount equivalent to a normal admission ticket (about 4,000 Chilean pesos) through the museum’s Passline platform. Contributors will receive “solidarity tickets” that will later be donated to regional institutions so children, seniors and community groups can visit the museum for free once it reopens.

Separately, a national circuit of free theater and musical performances has confirmed dates in the north: Antofagasta will host the musical “Morir de Amor” on July 27‑28, and Coquimbo will present the musical “Close to Me” on October 13‑14, each accompanied by free workshops. Organized by Caja Los Andes in partnership with Cultura Capital, the tour will travel to eight Chilean cities, aiming to decentralize access to high‑quality performing arts and engage audiences outside the capital region.
