Coquimbo to host La Pampilla festival to aid economic recovery
The Mayor of Coquimbo, Alí Manouchehri, has reversed a previous decision to suspend the La Pampilla festival, confirming it will proceed this September to aid local economic recovery. Following damage caused by a recent weather front, the municipality initially prioritized reconstruction efforts, allocating significant funds for aid and infrastructure.
However, after consultations with fishermen, merchants, and hospitality sectors, as well as agencies like Corfo and Sercotec, the decision was made to hold a “solidary, austere, and focused on reactivation” version of the event. The goal is to support local entrepreneurs and help the community recover financially.
The 2026 edition will feature a new financial model. To preserve municipal resources, the city will cover technical and stage assembly costs, while artists will be expected to participate without their usual fees, receiving instead coverage for travel, lodging, and operational needs. Entry fees are expected to be approximately $2,000, with free access provided for priority groups.
