Corfu: 51-year-old man imprisoned for abusing 8-year-old granddaughter

A 51-year-old man has been sent to prison in Corfu, Greece, following allegations of repeated sexual abuse of his 8-year-old granddaughter. The investigation was triggered on August 25 after the child's mother sought medical attention for symptoms that led a gynecologist to identify signs of abuse and refer the case to the police.

Forensic examinations conducted on September 3 confirmed recent sexual activity, with laboratory tests identifying microbes directly linked to sexual contact. A key component of the case is the testimony of the victim's 9-year-old brother, who reported that the suspect would lock the girl in his room while other family members were away. The boy also stated that the suspect threatened him to prevent him from disclosing the events.

The investigation has also uncovered allegations of past abuse. The child's 28-year-old mother testified that she was also sexually abused by her father in Albania between 2010 and 2015. The family had been living with the suspect to reduce living expenses. Authorities are noting the suspect's history, including previous prison sentences in Albania.
