Corfu hit by severe storms, lightning, and flooding

Severe weather, including heavy rainfall, lightning, and hail, has struck the island of Corfu. The storm caused significant disruptions, including a lightning strike that ignited a fire on the roof of an apartment building in the Kanoni area. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to the roof, and no injuries have been reported.

The adverse conditions also impacted aviation, forcing nine aircraft to divert to alternative airports for safety. Additionally, emergency services responded to reports of flooded ground-floor apartments in the city center and cleared a fallen tree that was obstructing traffic. Authorities have advised citizens to exercise caution and limit unnecessary travel as the weather remains volatile.
