Cori approves 880,000 euro project to secure historic church wall

The municipal government of Cori has approved a technical-economic feasibility project to secure the perimeter wall adjacent to the historic Santa Maria della Pietà church. The project, valued at 880,000 euros, is funded by the Italian Ministry of the Interior as part of national programs to reduce hydrogeological risk.

Geotechnical and structural issues identified between Piazza Mattei and Piazza Santa Maria della Pietà have previously impacted both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The intervention plan includes structural consolidation using reinforced concrete micropiles and steel tie rods, targeted reinforcement at specific intersections, and conservative restoration of historical wall surfaces.

Additionally, the project aims to enhance the area's aesthetic value by restoring original cobblestone paving in Piazza Mattei, installing new urban furniture, and setting up new signage. Mayor Mauro Primio De Lillis and Councilor Ennio Afilani stated the work will address long-standing cracks to ensure public safety while safeguarding the territory's historical memory.
