Corinthians condemns harassment of child receiving Neymar jersey

An 8-year-old Corinthians fan and his family required a police escort to leave the Neo Química Arena after being harassed by home supporters. The incident occurred following a 1-0 defeat by Santos in a Brasileirão match.

The hostility was triggered after Neymar Jr, playing for Santos, approached the stands to personally gift the child his match-worn jersey. Following the gesture, sections of the Corinthians crowd directed insults and aggressive behavior toward the boy and his family.

Corinthians issued an official statement condemning the aggression, asserting that “passion for the club, rivalry and the emotion of football can never override respect, education and safety.” The club announced it would organize special activities for the boy, including visits to the training center and meeting players.

Neymar Jr defended the child on social media, stating that liking a player from another team is a normal part of being a fan. Former goalkeeper Marcos also expressed solidarity with the boy, encouraging him to cherish the gift.
