Corinthians fans target child after he receives Neymar jersey
Eight-year-old Pedro Mello was targeted with insults and objects by Corinthians fans after receiving a jersey from Neymar Jr. during a match against Santos at the Neo Química Arena. The hostility forced the child and his family to leave the stadium under police escort.
In response to the incident, Corinthians invited Pedro to visit the club's training center, where he met players including Memphis Depay and Rodrigo Garro. Meanwhile, the Civil Police and the DRADE (Specialized Police Station for the Repression and Analysis of Sports Intolerance Crimes) have identified six individuals involved in the disturbance. These fans face potential bans from attending matches for up to three years under the General Sports Law, and their membership accounts have been suspended.
The Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva (STJD) fined Corinthians a total of R$ 20,500. This includes R$ 10,000 specifically for the disorder caused by the hostility toward the child, as well as additional fines for a delay in the halftime return and exceeding the permitted number of children in the pre-match protocol.
