Corinthians faces R$ 246 million deficit and R$ 2.8 billion debt
Corinthians is facing significant administrative and financial challenges. The club reported a R$ 246 million deficit for the first half of 2026, far exceeding the projected R$ 138 million. This shortfall is attributed to prize money payments for the 2025 Copa do Brasil and taxes related to player acquisitions. The club's total debt stands at approximately R$ 2.8 billion.
To mitigate these losses, the club aims to generate R$ 150 million through player sales. Turkish club Besiktas has expressed strong interest in midfielder Breno Bidon, with a potential offer ranging between 18 and 20 million euros. While Bidon is considered a vital asset, the club's financial instability may force a sale.
Administratively, the club is preparing for presidential elections scheduled for November 28, 2026. This process occurs amid internal tensions and a Public Ministry investigation into potential irregularities. Additionally, the club faces legal pressure from Cuiabá, which has requested the blocking of Corinthians' revenues due to payment delays regarding the player Raniele. Meanwhile, a new investigation by the São Paulo Public Ministry is examining whether a R$ 642 million debt for the Neo Química Arena might have been miscalculated, potentially meaning the stadium is already paid off.
