Corinthians statute reform vote suspended by São Paulo court

The São Paulo Court of Justice has suspended the Extraordinary General Assembly of Corinthians, which was scheduled for September 19, 2026, to vote on a proposed statute reform.

The suspension follows an appeal by three lifetime council members—Ademir de Carvalho Benedito, Alexandre Husni, and Guilherme Gonçalves Strenger—who argued that the Council of Orientation (Cori) did not have the proper authority to propose the changes. The reporting judge, Maurício Campos da Silva Velho, cited a risk of serious and irreparable damage, noting that the proposed changes could immediately impact the 2026 electoral process and member voting rights.

The reform sought to address 11 key topics, including the eligibility of Fiel Torcedor members to vote in club elections and rules regarding presidential vacancies. Specifically, the changes aimed to clarify whether interim leaders, such as current president Osmar Stábile, would be eligible for reelection following a vacancy.

Romeu Tuma Júnior, President of the Deliberative Council, confirmed the suspension and noted that no new date has been set for the assembly. The decision is considered temporary and reversible while the court reviews the appeal.
