Cornwall Council to keep cash payment option in 43 car parks from August
From 1 August, payment machines at most Cornwall Council‑run car parks will stop accepting cash, moving to card, contactless and mobile payment only. The change will affect all council‑owned sites except one designated car park in each community, leaving 43 car parks where drivers can still pay with coins.
Council transport cabinet member Dan Rogerson said the shift will save roughly £80,000 a year and eliminate the £100,000 annual cost of collecting, transporting and processing cash from the 138 car parks that currently accept both cash and cards. Almost 90 % of transactions are already made by card, the JustPark app or the Buzzpay website. Regular parkers can also reduce costs using the JustPark wallet.
