Cornwall Council service changes
Entities: Bude (Cornwall) · Launceston (Cornwall) · Cornwall Council · Hessenford (Cornwall) · Saltash (Cornwall)
Overview
Following the early‑July programme of road closures for water, gas‑main, ducting and drainage works, Cornwall Council announced further, more extensive closures throughout August and into September. From 3 August the B3254 between Rockwell and St Stephen’s Hill in Launceston will be shut for cover replacement, Buckles Hill will close on 5 August for ducting, and a footpath in Bude will be unavailable 24 hours a day from 4 August to 14 September for gas‑main replacement. Additional closures include Holnicote Road (3 August – 4 September), several streets in Saltash (3 August – 21 August), and Church Hill in Hessenford (17 August – 21 September). Pedestrian access to properties is maintained and signed detours are provided.
The council’s cash‑free parking shift took effect on 1 August, limiting cash acceptance to 43 council‑run car parks and saving an estimated £80,000 per year for reinvestment in car‑park and highway maintenance. The change was highlighted by transport cabinet member Dan Rogerson. On the same day, the national Great British Summer Savings Scheme was launched, giving all English children under 16 free local‑bus travel. The scheme was announced by Labour transport secretary Heidi Alexander and backed by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Chancellor Rachel Reeves, aiming to ease cost‑of‑living pressures for families.
