Correios seeks R$ 7 billion loan amid financial losses and investigation

Correios has formally requested a R$ 7 billion loan from private banks to address its ongoing financial deficits. The operation requires a guarantee from the National Treasury. This request follows a R$ 12 billion loan taken in December 2025. The state-owned company reported a net loss of R$ 5.55 billion in the first half of 2026, a 30.36% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Separately, Correios has suspended the management of payroll loans provided by Safe Consig on the Artemis platform. The Federal Police is investigating whether lobbyist Roberta Luchsinger, a friend of Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, intermediated the business between the technology firm and the state company. A draft contract allegedly found on Luchsinger's phone suggests a 50% commission for her consultancy on Safe Consig sales. Existing contracts and Postalis pension fund loans remain unaffected by the suspension, and Correios intends to assume direct management of the service.
