Correios workers launch indefinite national strike in Brazil
Correios workers in Brazil have launched an indefinite national strike following the failure of salary negotiations. The strike, which began at 10 PM on Thursday, was approved by 35 unions and is being coordinated by the Inter-state Federation of Postal Workers and Telecommunications Unions (Findect).
A primary point of contention is the company’s proposal regarding the health insurance plan for employees, retirees, and their families. Workers fear that changing the company’s role as the plan’s maintainer could jeopardize medical assistance and increase costs for staff. Other disputed items include the Ticket Extra (Vale Peru), holiday bonuses, and work on rest days.
In response, Correios has activated a Business Continuity Plan, mobilizing administrative staff to support operations and rearranging vehicles to minimize service disruptions. The company has also filed a request with the Superior Labor Court (TST) to declare the strike abusive. Findect has called for increased mobilization to pressure both the company and the federal government for a new proposal.
