Correos faces service delays amid staff shortages and labor disputes

Labor unions are warning of significant service disruptions at Correos due to critical staff shortages. In Reus, the CGT union reports that administrative notifications—including fines, tax communications, and judicial notices—are facing delays of up to ten days. The shortage is attributed to summer vacations and unfilled retirements, forcing remaining staff to cover larger areas. While general mail remains up to date, the increased volume of registered mail and parcels is adding pressure to the workforce.

Nationwide, the CSIF union claims the postal service is operating “at its limit.” The union alleges that a framework agreement signed in late 2024 is not being honored, specifically regarding the implementation of 35-hour work weeks and the conversion of part-time contracts to full-time. CSIF warns that these shortages are leading to excessive overtime and delays in delivering official documents, including hospital appointments and legal notices. In response, the union has called for mobilizations across eight Andalusian provinces in September, culminating in a protest in Madrid on September 30.
