Corrientes logs record tobacco harvest, delivering $2.3 bn to producers

The 2025/2026 tobacco campaign in Argentina's Corrientes Province closed with a record collection of 1,220,230 kilograms of criollo tobacco across five reception points. The harvest generated an economic inflow of more than 2.295 billion Argentine pesos for the families of the roughly 1,020 producers who work on about 800 hectares in the departments of Goya, Lavalle, San Roque, Esquina and Curuzú Cuatiá.

The volume was split among the main cooperatives and companies: Cooperativa Buena Vista led with 442,331 kg, followed by Alliance One SA with 277,933 kg, Cooperativa El Sauce with 225,803 kg, the Cooperativa de Tabacaleros with 213,671 kg, and La Nueva Alfader SAS with 60,492 kg. Additional Burley‑type tobacco was also collected, underscoring the sector’s dynamism.

Alejandro Correa, interventor of the Instituto Provincial del Tabaco, said the figures reflect producers’ effort and coordinated work to strengthen the provincial tobacco chain. He highlighted the direct benefit to producer families and local economies, calling tobacco a strategic activity that creates jobs, roots, and regional growth, and noted continued provincial government support to improve production and profitability.
