Cosenza Calcio forced to play match behind closed doors due to pitch issues

Cosenza Calcio is facing significant logistical challenges due to the deteriorating condition of the pitch at the San Vito-Gigi Marulla stadium. Because the grass is deemed unusable, the club's upcoming match against Cavese, scheduled for September 12, will be played behind closed doors at the Ezio Scida stadium in Crotone. This decision follows a negative assessment by the Committee for the Analysis of Security in Sporting Events (CASMS) and a subsequent order from the Prefect of Crotone.

The poor state of the Marulla pitch is attributed to a lack of irrigation since May and the end of a maintenance contract with a specialized firm. Reports indicate a failure in the irrigation system's pumps. This situation has led to potential legal disputes between the club and the Municipality of Cosenza regarding responsibility for repairs. While the team continues to train on the damaged surface, the lack of maintenance continues to impact the club's ability to host home matches and generate gate revenue.
