Cosenza expands healthcare with new cardiothoracic unit and community network

Cosenza is expanding its healthcare network through two major initiatives: the launch of cardiothoracic surgery at Annunziata Hospital and the activation of a new network of community houses and hospitals across the province.

The new cardiothoracic-vascular surgical unit at Annunziata Hospital features 16 beds and three state-of-the-art operating rooms. This facility aims to provide high-complexity interventions to a catchment area of approximately 700,000 residents, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the Calabria region for specialized care.

Additionally, 35 new territorial structures have been activated to bring healthcare closer to citizens. Vitaliano De Salazar, Director General of the Cosenza Hospital and Extraordinary Commissioner of ASP Cosenza, noted that these efforts, supported by PNRR funding, aim to mitigate the economic and social impact of healthcare migration, which previously cost the Calabria region approximately 10 million euros annually.
