Cosenza launches rapid‑response social service to tackle heatwave
The municipality of Cosenza, led by Mayor Franz Caruso and welfare assessor Veronica Buffone, has activated the Pronto Intervento Sociale (PIS) to protect elderly, children and other vulnerable residents during the current heatwave. The service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, coordinating with the local Red Cross chapter, the cooperative “Strade di Casa,” police, the prefecture and medical emergency services. PIS provides immediate logistical, psychological and relational assistance, monitors emerging needs and initiates social‑care pathways for those in distress. Citizens can request help by calling 112 or other emergency numbers, prompting an immediate response.
The initiative aims to strengthen the town’s welfare system, ensuring swift intervention for any non‑deferrable social emergency linked to extreme heat conditions.
