ASP Cosenza launches PNRR-funded community healthcare network
The ASP Cosenza is implementing a major territorial healthcare reform in the Calabria region, funded by the PNRR. The plan introduces a new network consisting of 9 community hospitals and 26 community houses. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between home care and hospital settings, providing 180 additional beds and involving over 1,000 professionals, including 500 new healthcare workers and 400 general practitioners.
In Cosenza, Mayor Franz Caruso has emphasized the importance of integrating these local services with a modern hospital hub to ensure comprehensive care. The rollout is progressing, with several community hospitals already operational in areas such as Scalea and San Giovanni in Fiore, and others expected to be active by the end of September. Additionally, new facilities are slated to open in Cassano all’Ionio.
Separately, in Orsara di Puglia, a new social housing project for the elderly is being inaugurated. Funded by the PNRR, this project is designed to support the autonomy of non-self-sufficient seniors, allowing them to remain integrated within their local social fabric rather than being forced into large urban centers or nursing homes.
