Potenza Calcio appeals decision to play Cosenza match behind closed doors

Potenza Calcio has filed an urgent appeal with the TAR to contest a decision by the Crotone Prefecture to hold the upcoming Serie C match against Cosenza behind closed doors. The match is scheduled for August 29, 2026, at the Ezio Scida stadium in Crotone.

The Prefecture's decision was based on recommendations from the Committee for the Analysis of Security in Sporting Events, citing structural deficiencies at the stadium, potential friction between local fan groups, and logistical concerns regarding supporter travel. Potenza President Donato Macchia has challenged these grounds, noting that a recent Coppa Italia match between Crotone and Cosenza was held with spectators present and that Potenza fans traveled without incident during the previous season.

In preparation for the match, Cosenza coach Federico Coppitelli stated the team is focused on finding balance and integrating new players, despite facing challenges such as finding suitable training grounds. Meanwhile, Potenza recently held a public presentation for its squad and staff in Piazza dei Comuni following a strong start to the season.
