Costa Brava hotel revenues grow 14% amid new local tourism taxes

Hotel revenues in the Costa Brava region of Catalonia have seen a significant increase, with billing growing by 14% over a 12-month period. According to data from Idescat, the average daily rate (ADR) for hotels on the coast reached 147.78 euros in July, a 14.3% increase compared to the previous year. This growth rate is more than double the national average for Spain.

Simultaneously, Catalan municipalities are beginning to implement new local tourism taxes. Under current regulations, city councils can apply a municipal surcharge of up to 4 euros per person per night on top of the existing regional tax. Castelldefels and L'Hospitalet have already approved these surcharges, while Sabadell has taken initial steps toward implementation. These new fees are expected to be enforceable starting October 1, 2026, and will be managed by the Tax Agency of Catalonia.
