Andorra and Pyrenees tourism and hospitality trends

Overview

By late August 2026, tourism in the Pyrenees, Andorra, and various Catalan coastal regions maintained strong performance. In the Pyrenees and Lleida, hotel occupancy reached between 90% and 100% in mid-August, with rural accommodation forecasts hitting 95%. In Andorra, the Unió Hotelera predicted August occupancy would reach approximately 87%, matching previous year levels.

In Catalonia, tourism continues to drive demographic shifts. In the Pallars region, towns like Rialp, Esterri d'Àneu, and Sort are seeing a notable increase in seasonal population. Catalan hotels recorded nearly 2.7 million travelers in July, a 3.1% increase from the previous year. While Barcelona saw a 4.6% increase in hotel guests, the average length of stay decreased slightly to approximately three nights.

Coastal regions showed robust activity through the end of August. In the Maresme region, hotel occupancy reached 90% to 95%, driven by European, American, and Japanese tourists. In Costa Brava, camping sites averaged 80% occupancy, while the broader destination saw levels between 90% and 95% from late June through August, with expectations of record-breaking overnight stays in Catalan campsites.

Economic indicators for the Costa Brava show significant growth, with hotel revenues increasing by 14% over a 12-month period. According to Idescat, the average daily rate (ADR) for coastal hotels reached 147.78 euros in July, a 14.3% increase from the previous year, more than doubling the Spanish national average. Concurrently, Catalan municipalities are implementing new local tourism taxes. Castelldefels, L'Hospitalet, and Sabadell are moving toward municipal surcharges of up to 4 euros per person per night, expected to be enforceable starting October 1, 2026.
