Costa Rica sees rising investment and fintech growth
Costa Rica is experiencing significant economic and financial developments. Foreign direct investment (FDI) grew by 23.4% in the first half of 2026, reaching $2,739.6 million, according to PROCOMER and Central Bank data. This growth is driven by dynamism in free trade zones and reinvestments.
In the corporate sector, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has opened a new office in San José to serve as a regional hub for Central America and the Caribbean. Simultaneously, the fintech landscape is maturing, with Paymentology marking five years of operations in the region by supporting advanced services like embedded finance and cloud-native processing.
To support domestic stability, the Chamber of Banks and Financial Institutions is hosting a virtual National Financial Education Fair throughout October, focusing on savings and budgeting. Additionally, legal experts note that investment vehicles like certificates of deposit remain highly regulated and secure under SUGEF oversight.
