Costa Rica firefighters modernize response with new technology

The Benemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos de Costa Rica has launched a nationwide modernization effort to enhance emergency response capabilities and reduce rescue times. This initiative includes significant hardware acquisitions and the introduction of advanced training technology.

A key component of this upgrade is a new hydrocarbon emergency simulator located at the National Fire Academy in Patarrá, San José. This specialized tool allows professional firefighters and gas station employees to practice emergency protocols under highly realistic and controlled conditions.

Legal experts note that under Law 8228, property owners and businesses in Costa Rica are legally required to maintain fire safety certifications from the fire department. Failure to comply with these safety regulations can result in severe administrative penalties and substantial civil liability.
