Municipalities in Argentina and Costa Rica propose tax and fee reforms

Various legislative and municipal initiatives are targeting local tax and fee structures in Argentina and Costa Rica.

In San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina, Mayor Rossana Chahla has proposed an ordinance to eliminate 59 municipal fees and taxes to reduce costs for residents and businesses and to simplify administrative procedures. Additionally, councilors José María Canelada and Gustavo Cobos have introduced a reform to the Tax Code aimed at preventing the collection of municipal taxes through public utility bills for water, gas, and electricity.

In Costa Rica, Deputy Gonzalo Ramírez has presented a bill to reform parking meter regulations. The proposal seeks to require municipalities to provide technical justification for expanding collection hours and suggests lowering municipal parking rates to a range between 50% and 75% of private parking prices, down from the current minimum of 75%.
