Costa Rican police arrest three men for suspected counterfeit currency

Costa Rican public forces have arrested three men in the province of Heredia for the possession of suspected counterfeit $100 bills. The arrests occurred during separate operations in the sectors of Guararí and San Francisco de Heredia.

In the first incident in Guararí, a man identified by the surname Vega was intercepted after attempting to flee. Officers discovered three $100 bills with identical serial numbers, a key indicator of forgery. A second operation in Guararí led to the arrest of a man identified as Montoya, who was found with nine suspicious bills. The largest seizure occurred in San Francisco de Heredia, where a man identified as Guevara was detained with 15 suspected counterfeit bills.

In total, 27 bills amounting to $2,700 were seized. The Heredia Prosecutor's Office will determine the legal status of the suspects and confirm the authenticity of the currency. Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant when conducting commercial transactions.
