Counterfeit currency arrests in Latin America

Overview

Law enforcement agencies in Mexico and Costa Rica have conducted separate operations targeting the use and possession of forged currency.

In Hidalgo, Mexico, authorities arrested two individuals in Huasca de Ocampo after a business owner reported a fraudulent 500-peso note. Police recovered 45 counterfeit 500-peso bills, totaling 22,500 pesos, and placed the suspects under investigation by the Public Ministry.

In Costa Rica, public forces arrested three men in the province of Heredia for possession of suspected counterfeit $100 bills. Operations in Guararí and San Francisco de Heredia resulted in the seizure of 27 bills totaling $2,700.
