Cotia authorities rescue workers from slave-like conditions

Two workers were rescued from conditions analogous to slavery during a labor inspection at a farm in Caucaia do Alto, located in the municipality of Cotia. The operation, conducted by Labor Inspectors, identified severe human rights and labor violations, including the absence of formal employment ties, negligible wages, and degrading living conditions.

The victims include a 59-year-old man from Bahia who had been at the site for approximately eight years, and a 40-year-old man. The Cotia City Hall, through its Specialized Reference Center for Social Assistance (CREAS), is providing support via the Specialized Service for the Protection and Assistance of Families and Individuals (PAEFI).

Assistance measures include psychological support, help with civil documentation, access to income transfer programs, and professional qualification efforts to facilitate reintegration into the workforce.
