Court nullifies Hope Uzodimma’s APC senatorial nomination

A Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the nomination of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 elections. Justice Obiora Egwuatu ruled that Uzodimma did not win the party’s primary election held on May 18, 2026.

The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize former governor Rochas Okorocha as the rightful APC candidate and directed the party to forward his name for the January 16, 2027, election. Justice Egwuatu also restrained Uzodimma from presenting himself as the party’s candidate, noting that evidence suggested the documents used for his nomination were fabricated.

Okorocha, who filed the suit in August 2026, argued that he secured 150,780 votes during the primary, while Uzodimma received 102,158. Conversely, Uzodimma’s camp maintains he won with 230,464 votes against Okorocha’s 1,098. The Imo State APC has rejected the ruling, insisting Uzodimma remains the legitimate candidate, and the state government has expressed intentions to appeal the decision.
