Court confirms detention of man accused of possessing child abuse material
An appeals court has confirmed the preventive detention of 43-year-old Roberto Pinto, who is accused of possessing nearly 300 files containing child sexual abuse material. The investigation began in May after a technician discovered the illicit photos and videos while repairing Pinto’s laptop.
Judges Leandro Favaro and Gastón de Marco rejected defense motions for nullity, ruling that the technician’s discovery did not violate privacy expectations as it occurred within the scope of professional practice. The court also noted Pinto’s criminal history, including an eight-year prison sentence for aggravated sexual abuse in 2011, citing his potential for recidivism as a reason to maintain detention to prevent flight risk.
