Child sexual abuse material investigations in Argentina
Overview
Authorities in Argentina have conducted several investigations and legal proceedings regarding the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material.
In one case, an appeals court confirmed the preventive detention of 43-year-old Roberto Pinto. The investigation into Pinto began in May after a technician discovered nearly 300 illicit files while repairing his laptop. Judges ruled that the discovery did not violate privacy expectations and cited Pinto’s prior criminal history as a reason to maintain detention.
In separate operations in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, the Buenos Aires City Police's Special Technological Investigations Division, coordinating with the Lomas de Zamora judicial department under prosecutor Esteban Berriel, arrested two men, aged 38 and 44. These arrests followed international alerts from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
During the first operation, authorities seized five cell phones, five pendrives, four hard drives, a tablet, a notebook, and three memory cards from the 38-year-old suspect. The second operation, targeting the 44-year-old suspect, resulted in the seizure of a large volume of digital storage media, including 41 hard drives, four cell phones, 15 pendrives, four micro SD cards, and 246 optical supports.
