Nasir El-Rufai rights suit dismissed as Hanan Aludiba trial suspended

In Nigeria, the FCT High Court has dismissed a N120 million fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai against the Department of State Services (DSS), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Justice Sylvanus Oriji ruled that the agencies acted within their statutory mandates regarding investigation invitations and that the DSS's attempt to arrest El-Rufai and seize his passport were lawful. The court awarded N200,000 in costs to each of the four respondents.

Separately, in Ghana, the Court of Appeal has granted a request from Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the former CEO of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), to suspend his criminal trial. The suspension will remain in effect pending the determination of an appeal regarding the validity of the charge sheet. Aludiba’s legal team argued that the current charges lack sufficient detail to allow for an adequate defense.
