Courtney Clenney sentenced to six years for fatal stabbing of boyfriend

Courtney Clenney, an internet personality known as Courtney Tailor, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2022 fatal stabbing of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, in Miami. The plea deal with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office allows Clenney to avoid a second-degree murder trial, which carried a potential sentence of up to 30 years.

Clenney was sentenced to six years in prison and five years of probation. Having been in custody since her arrest in August 2022, she is expected to serve approximately two more years before being transferred to a Florida state prison. The agreement also mandates mental health and substance abuse evaluations and treatment. Additionally, Clenney is legally barred from profiting from the case through media or entertainment projects.

The incident occurred in April 2022 at the couple’s luxury Miami apartment. While Clenney initially maintained she acted in self-defense, prosecutors presented evidence, including surveillance footage and audio, suggesting a pattern of escalating violence where Obumseli was the victim. State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle stated the plea allows the victim's family to finally hear Clenney “accepting full responsibility for his death.”
