British Columbia municipal elections approach as nomination deadlines pass
The Cowichan Valley School District has appointed Darlene Reynolds as acting superintendent while Tim Davie is on leave. Reynolds, formerly the district’s associate superintendent, is noted for her expertise in inclusive learning and Truth and Reconciliation. Tammy Renyard has transitioned into the role of assistant superintendent.
Across British Columbia, municipal election nominations have closed for several regions, setting the stage for the October 17 voting day. In Abbotsford, 45 candidates have filed for mayor, council, and school board positions. Surrey is seeing a large field of candidates, with seven running for mayor and 65 for council. Other notable races include Mission, where H. S. Kenny Braich will face Councillor Jag Gill for mayor, and Kamloops, which has 51 candidates on the ballot.
In some areas, such as Gold River and Zeballos, nomination periods have been extended due to a lack of councillor candidates. Conversely, the Kootenay-Columbia School District board will be decided by acclamation as candidates went unchallenged.
