Prime Minister to launch Digital Farmer Card program on September 17

Prime Minister Tarek Rahman is scheduled to officially launch the Digital Farmer Card program on September 17 at an event in Fulgazi, Feni. The initiative, which will be held simultaneously across 50 districts, aims to provide a digital identity and integrated services to farmers, including access to subsidies for fertilizer, seeds, and pesticides, as well as agricultural loans and irrigation facilities.

Under the first phase, government incentives will be distributed to approximately 100,000 farmers. Currently, 1.63 million farmers have registered for the program, and bank accounts have been opened for the initial 100,000 recipients. The project, funded by the World Bank and IFAD, intends to bring 4.3 million farmers under the smart card system by the 2026-27 fiscal year. The cards will utilize QR codes to ensure transparency and rapid identification for service delivery.
