Cox's Bazar resort fire kills at least 10 people

A devastating fire destroyed the Tuptup Resto & Resort in the Inani area of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, on Saturday morning. The three-story structure, built primarily of bamboo and wood, was completely gutted by the blaze. At least 10 people, believed to be tourists, were killed, including a five-year-old child and five women. Six of the deceased have been identified as members of a single family from Dhaka.

Nine others were reported injured, with some suffering burns. Approximately 30 people were present at the resort when the fire broke out around 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM. While some guests managed to escape by jumping from balconies, others were trapped by thick smoke.

Authorities noted that the resort lacked a valid fire-safety license and had previously been warned following an inspection in June. The facility was also reportedly operating without proper building permits. An investigation is underway to determine if the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit or a kitchen stove. DNA testing will be conducted to identify the remaining victims.
