CPBL teams Fubon Guardians and TSG Hawks sign former MLB pitchers

As the August 31 foreign player registration deadline approaches in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL), the Fubon Guardians and TSG Hawks have announced significant roster reinforcements to bolster their pitching rotations.

The Fubon Guardians have signed American right-handed pitcher Tyler Ivey. Ivey, a former third-round draft pick by the Houston Astros, brings Major League experience to the team. After a brief retirement in 2022, he returned to professional baseball in 2025, pitching for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys in Triple-A and later competing in the Mexican League. He has arrived in Taiwan and is currently training with the Guardians' second team.

The TSG Hawks have secured right-handed pitcher Wilmer Font, who has six years of Major League experience. Font, known by the Chinese name ‘Wei Feng Shan’, has previously played in the KBO and recently led the Mexican League in strikeouts. Additionally, the Hawks have signed infielder Sotaro Nagata, a former Japanese professional developmental player, who is expected to join the first team to increase depth in the infield.
