CPI(M) in Kerala faces misconduct and corruption allegations
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala is facing multiple internal and external controversies involving allegations of misconduct and political friction.
In Palakkad, district secretary E. N. Suresh Babu has stepped down following allegations of sexual misconduct. A female party worker reportedly provided digital evidence, including call recordings and messages, alleging harassment.
Additionally, a Vigilance probe has been ordered into the Mundamveli flat complex in Kochi. Former GCDA chairman and current state secretariat member C. N. Mohanan is facing a Vigilance case regarding the project, which has been criticized for poor living conditions and being built on allegedly marshy land under high-tension power lines. In Thiruvananthapuram, an internal inquiry is underway regarding allegations that a Corporation councillor demanded a bribe.
On the political front, the party is experiencing internal debate following controversial remarks by former MLA P. Nandakumar, who described Malappuram as a “hub of fundamentalists and extremists.” While some leaders, including DYFI state secretary M. Vijin, distanced the party from the comments to uphold secularism, others have sought to clarify that the remarks targeted specific political influences rather than the entire community.
