On May 28, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders and workers staged a protest in Chennai against recent Enforcement Directorate raids on the residence of former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. They demanded that Tamil Nadu chief minister M. K. Stalin condemn the raids and the arrest of CPI(M) leader M. A. Baby.

The CPI(M) spokesperson accused the raids of being part of a BJP‑RSS political agenda, noting that the ED found no incriminating documents in the searched premises. The raids, conducted in multiple cities, are part of a money‑laundering probe into Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd., focusing on alleged payments of ₹2.78 crore to Exalogic Solutions, a firm owned by Vijayan’s daughter, and other fictitious expenses totalling ₹182 crore.

Vijayan described the operation as a “targeted political vendetta” and criticised the central government for misusing investigative agencies against opposition leaders.
