CPI(M) pushes for INDIA bloc revival, accuses Congress of undermining unity

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) convened its Central Committee in New Delhi and called for the revival of the Opposition INDIA bloc after recent state assembly elections. The party said Congress, the bloc’s largest member, was not helping to build unity among secular forces against the RSS‑BJP, stating, “The attitude of the Congress towards other opposition parties is not helpful in building the unity of secular forces in a united fight against the RSS‑BJP.”

CPI(M) rejected allegations of a deal with the BJP in Kerala, highlighted the Left Democratic Front’s loss of its last stronghold there, and described the party’s re‑entry into the West Bengal Assembly as a positive development. It warned of the BJP’s growing footprint in the South, alleged manipulation of delimitation, and criticised the Election Commission’s roll‑revision process that it says disenfranchised lakhs of voters.

The communique also pointed to a deteriorating economy – a historic low rupee, dwindling foreign‑exchange reserves, rising unemployment and fuel prices – and opposed the new VB‑GRAMG Act replacing MGNREGA and the immediate implementation of new labour codes. It cited rising violence against women, Dalits and Adivasis, a recent Delhi gang‑rape, and alleged BJP involvement in a NEET paper leak, while condemning US actions against Cuba, Iran, Palestine and Venezuela.
