Indonesia implements food price stabilization measures amid rising staple costs

Indonesia is facing fluctuations in staple food prices, with significant increases noted in chili peppers, rice, and poultry. Data from the National Food Strategic Price Information Center (PIHPS) shows red bird's eye chili prices reaching as high as Rp104,850 per kg. Other commodities, including various grades of rice, shallots, and eggs, have also seen upward price movements.

In response to these rising costs, the Ministry of Trade and the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs are implementing stabilization measures. These include intensified market monitoring through the SP2KP system and the distribution of food assistance over the next two months to alleviate the burden on the public. The government is also coordinating with agencies like Bulog and the National Food Agency to ensure supply availability and distribution stability.

In the commodities sector, Crude Palm Oil (CPO) prices have experienced volatility. While recent trading showed some stabilization and slight recovery in Malaysia, the market remains pressured by high stock expectations. Meanwhile, Indonesian palm oil exporters may benefit from India's decision to cut import duties on vegetable oils to combat domestic inflation.
